Time well wasted

Dark Blue

One of these days I will figure out how to make a beautiful yet realistic looking sky. But not today. Every time I take a picture of a beautiful blue sky I look at the picture and it's never as blue as I remember it and I wonder if maybe that's just how it really looked, and maybe I'm just trying to remember something more beautiful than it was. Or maybe it's just the camera, who knows.

slow down... this night is a perfect shade of dark blue.

Unexpected pictures
Due to a lack of a tripod I've found myself always looking around for things that I can set my camera on to make it stand still. Yesterday that happened to be a bench. I was originally just going to take a picture of the bike path, but as fate would have it something cooler turned out. A lot more people walk down that path than you would think. It took me a good while to be able to get a picture with no one in it. I know, sitting out in the beautiful weather, it's terrible, I should really keep complaining.

Jumper
For some reason this picture reminds me of the Third Eye Blind song Jumper... even though Callan did not jump. Its just a fun cliff. Maybe it's just that I love 90's music. I found myself singing Jumper in the shower this morning and realized I know the entire song by heart. I can sing along to a lot of songs, but very few can I sing all the way through with no music. So, things I love:

1) 90's music
2) Devils Den cliffs

The Duckling Experiment
I have a test this afternoon in my statistics class over some basic stats and the scientific method. On my way to school this morning I got to test out the "real world" applications of my newfound knowledge.

Hypothesis: Ducks are only cool with me from certain distances.

Observation 1: Ducks are cool with me from this distance

Observation 2: Ducks are also cool with me from this distance

Observation 3: Ducks are decidedly not cool with me from this distance

Conclusion - Ducks are definitely cool with me from more than 3 feet away.

Next experiment: How the possession of bread will affect how cool ducks are with me from certain distances.

The Whiskey Weekend
Choosing a bourbon based on the fact that it came with two bourbon glasses in a gift pack is probably not the best way to choose a liquor one is somewhat unfamiliar with. But that logic be dammed.

Panoramalicious
So it's valentines day, and maybe I'll make a valentines day post later, but for now it's just more pictures. This is of course from the same trip to Devils Den as the picture below from the top of yellow rock. Oh the scenery!

A Day at Devils Den
Me and cool Cal took a trip to Devils Den over the weekend. Many cool pictures were taken. We'll start with this one. No really... we're looking at something. More to come...

Bluetooth Socery

So at I have newish computer at work with a fancy schmancy bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse. As with all technology... I never trusted it... not once. And just as I could have guessed, the blue light on my bluetooth keyboard (coincidence? I think so) turned...

purple

Apparently this is the sign of a self destructed bluetooth keyboard. So, as the computer guy was busy, I spent my day browsing the internet with a mouse not able to do any work (for once an excuse). I left early because well, sometimes you hit the point where a mouse just isn't enough to entertain you.

So I come in in the morning and what do I find? Quite possibly the worlds oldest surviving "quiet key" (quiet key my ass) keyboard. It has yet to fail me, unlike that new fangled bluetooth sorcery (who knew spell check would be ok with fangled but not bluetooth). It's dark sided, and I will not have it in my office. I have spoken it into existence. If you believe in Jesus you can stay.

Photos at the Library part 2

Another photo of the library, this time from the side of the building on the street I live on. (I'm sure you're starting to sense a pattern emerging, but lately I've been pretty lazy and with the library a block away it's an easy target. Better pictures to follow)

Photos at the Library

So here's my first picture. It was taken off the back deck of the Fayetteville Public Library a couple days ago.

The Birth of a Blog
The art of time wasting is something I've dabbled in but have yet to completely immerse myself. However, as the amount of work I have to do at work has tapered off I have come to the realization that I can only browse digg, fark, and cnn so much without wanting to lay my head down on my desk and weep like a small child.

Restlessness has started to take its toll. So out of this boredom is born the blog. A complete waste of time who's sole purpose will be to entertain me and provide an outlet for my new hobby, photography.

I've recently realized that my room is horribly boring and in need of a little decoration (this is the adult in me trying to get out). And being the lowly college student with a graduate assistantship salary I've got to be a little thrifty with the artwork. So why not just make it myself? Good plan right? It's freggin fool-proof.

So the plan is to blog and post pictures until I've taken some that I feel would make good decorations on my walls. This might take a while. But luckily, time is something I have an abundance of,. Now if I can just think of a way to justify needing photoshop on my work computer I can waste time even more efficiently.

I'll be experimenting with different types of photography and digital editing. So bear with me as I barely have any idea what the crap I'm doing.
