The Way to Nowhere
Or the middle of nowhere at least - that's where I'm headed. It's that time of year where I get in the car and drive 9 hours to the middle of nowhere Kentucky to spend time with family. It's nothing but farmland, but it's always felt like home. Time to go eat some pie, watch some football, and maybe take a few more pictures (like the one below). Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.

It's fall ya'll
This picture makes me happy. I've taken over 8000 pictures in the past year (which works out to nearly a picture an hour for those that aren't math teachers) and only about 4 of them make me this happy. There's something about the color of the hills in Arkansas during the fall that just amazes me year after year.

Dunmore Head
For some reason having a large camera set up on a tripod makes strangers more likely to come up and talk to you. Maybe it's because you're standing still for an extended period of time while others around you are moving. Maybe that makes you an easy target for people who love to talk.

On one particular day I was outside Trinity University in the Temple Bar district of Dublin. The street where I was standing was closed to traffic, so I set up a tripod in the middle of the street to take pictures. An older Irishmen walked by and started talking - mostly about American politics. But he also mentioned he owned a bed and breakfast out on Dingle peninsula on the westernmost point of Europe. He said they'd take Americans out at night and tell them they could see the Statue of Liberty on clear nights. When they said they couldn't see it he said he'd tell them to hold on a minute while he went and made a call to have them turn it on. He found this hilarious. Maybe I just don't get it.

A few days later we drove out to the westernmost point of Ireland. It's called Dunmore Head, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm bad enough at geography that I had no idea Ireland was even close to having the westernmost point in Europe.
